There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cde.ca.gov\/ta\/ac\/ap\/apireports.asp\">just updated API data<\/a> for CA schools earlier this week on 5\/13.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m finding all the information both pleasant and frustrating. Pleasant that it&#8217;s available for all so easily, yet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cde.ca.gov\/ta\/ac\/ap\/reclayout09b.asp\">tricky to understand in plain English<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What I looked at is the API data files 2009-2010 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cde.ca.gov\/ta\/ac\/ap\/apidatafiles.asp\">2009 Base API-Data File DBF<\/a>). Below are the top ten CA High School rankings <strong>without<\/strong> looking at special education, alternative models (ASAM), small size, or charter schools.<\/p>\n<h3>2009-2010 CA <em>Base <\/em>API High Schools<\/h3>\n<ol style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\n<li>Gretchen   Whitney High<\/li>\n<li>Oxford   Academy<\/li>\n<li>California   Academy of Mathematics and Sc<\/li>\n<li>Mission   San Jose High<\/li>\n<li>Lowell   High<\/li>\n<li>San   Marino High<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monta   Vista High<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Saratoga   High<\/li>\n<li>Miramonte   High<\/li>\n<li>Troy   High<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Note that Lynbrook is next at #11 after Troy High.<\/p>\n<p>For comparison, here is the same list based on the Growth API instead of Base.<\/p>\n<h3>2009-2010 CA <em>Growth<\/em> API High Schools<\/h3>\n<ol style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\n<li>Gretchen Whitney High<\/li>\n<li>Oxford Academy<\/li>\n<li>California Academy of Mathematics and Sc<\/li>\n<li>Lowell High<\/li>\n<li>Mission San Jose High<\/li>\n<li>San Marino High<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monta Vista High<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Saratoga High<\/li>\n<li>Miramonte High<\/li>\n<li>Lynbrook   High<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Troy is #11 in the growth basis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">The list is largely unchanged between the base and the subsequent growth API update.<\/p>\n<p>I think it&#8217;s interesting since I attended Monta Vista High and students largely hold a grudge against MV for being so book focused and competitive. Parents, on the other hand, do whatever they can to get into the school so that their children will have a (theoretically) better future.<\/p>\n<p>Disclaimer: I am not familiar with CA school rankings so my analysis may not take into consideration something that another person may view as key.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh, neat.
